AMD announces the AMD Fusion Fund – What It Means For Developers
AMD recently announced the creation of a new program designed to accelerate the ecosystem and software applications that take advantage of AMD Fusion APUs – Accelerated Processing Units. APUs are a new type of x86 processor design that combines CPU and GPU compute capabilities in a single-die processor, creating exciting new possibilities in how developers approach visual computing, application performance, and device form factor. How would you architect your software differently, knowing that the GPU could handle some of the general purpose computing tasks and free up the CPU to do more? Perhaps you’re on the bleeding edge and already parallelize your code to do exactly that. Either way, you’ll want to check out the AMD Fusion Fund.
The AMD Fusion Fund enables investment in companies that are developing innovative solutions and applications that leverage the features of the AMD Fusion family of APUs. The program is intended to accelerate time to market for solutions such as:
- Applications that are newly enabled or greatly enhanced by the synergy between CPU and GPU
- Tools that enable developers to easily develop, scale, optimize or test applications
- Technology or intellectual properties that can be a foundational building block of applications
- Form factors or devices that expand the scope for deployment of applications
