Can You Visualize the Virtual Future?
At AMD, we are excited to see Microsoft’s announcement this week about Microsoft RemoteFX being developed for Windows Server® 2008 R2 Service Pack 1. Why? Because it demonstrates the possibilities of a vivid, digitally connected future.
As many companies plan to deploy a centralized computing architecture with virtualized or “hosted” desktop PCs, IT professionals want to deliver a premium user experience for their connected workers. The Microsoft RemoteFX feature in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 is being designed to allow remote workers to access nearly any type of application or screen content, including rich media and 3D applications, on connected remote devices such as thin clients.
And the Microsoft RemoteFX feature will accomplish this by harnessing the power of GPU computing to accelerate the rendering of hosted desktop PCs when paired with servers running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, such as servers based on AMD Opteron™ processors.
As a leader in next-generation graphics acceleration, such as ATI Stream technology, AMD delivers balanced CPU and GPU platforms capable of running demanding computing tasks faster than on the CPU or the GPU alone.
Our development teams have been working closely with Microsoft to provide server hardware, ATI FirePro™ professional graphics cards, and technical support to help ensure future AMD platform technology will be compatible with the rich media enhancements in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
This is just one more step AMD is taking on the path to bring to life a vivid digital future where users will be able to enjoy a rich visual experience powered by AMD technology in a flexible and high-performance centralized IT environment.
Are you ready to visualize the future possibilities?
