Last week we announced that AMD has shipped 500 million x86 processors. This is a very real achievement, and one that we’re rightly proud of. 500 million is one of those numbers that is difficult for the human mind to grasp, like sand on a beach or stars in the sky.
Suffice to say, it’s a lot of processors.
It seems very appropriate that this milestone is arriving during our year-long 40th Anniversary Celebration, providing yet another indicator of AMD’s indelible impact on our industry, and on consumers the world over.
Back in April, I posted about our 40th Anniversary and how, from our point of view, 40 really is the new 20. We see our anniversary as a great time to recognize both AMD’s successes and our transition to a new focus on designing the next generation of CPUs and GPUs.
Our “ruby” anniversary is also an opportunity to have some fun and give back to the fans that have supported us over the decades through a series of contests. Our first contest closed in June and the exceptionally creative winning entries can be found on our Flickr and YouTube channels. When we challenged the community to develop creative ways to celebrate the anniversary, we knew you’d come through, but we never thought people would go this far! Well done everyone!
And now, onto contest number two!
This time, we’re giving away four HP Pavilion DV2z notebooks throughout August and September. For a chance to win, just follow us on Twitter (@AMD_Unprocessed) and starting today, a new question about general AMD trivia will be tweeted every other Monday. Eligible respondents* who reply via Direct Message with the correct answer will be automatically entered for a chance to win one of these feature laden laptops.
Not bad, eh? Check out the anniversary page for more details!
Good luck!

No, I think it’s bad. I hope AMD will delivers the prize with higher spec notebooks.

where’s the new stuff?
Marketing around AMD’s new CPU’s GPU’s should be quite simple when coupled with Windows 7; more bang for the buck, at comparable prices- including lower end, a very basic concept that ordinary folk understand-value.
Having other venders market and bundle your wares, leave you unable to control that aspect-and I would be leery of them all (trust no one). Intel & Nvidia are ready to do anything to derail AMD’s Q3 plans; a most important Q for AMD. This is war! Intel has known this for years.
