Dear Mr Dessau,
I was looking forward to Windows 7, to release the true value of my AMD/ATI video card. However, myself and many other users are not in the mood for celebration as their cards do not work for the purpose we purchased them. Please see the forums for details at:

and review comments posted by angry customers at:

Your help in fixing these issues would be very much appreciated.

Do you care to comment on the lack of customer service your support teams offer to your customers.
3 months without a reply on the below ATI/AMD thread !!!
This issue effect anyone watching HD content with nearly all your ATI hardware in the UK, New Zealand and Germany.
Fortunately, nVidia dont seem to have this BUG!
See the below site where there are many unhappy ATI users!!!! ME INCLUDED

There are various other forums with the same problems around the world…
Do us all a favour and pull your fingers out and get this resolved!

Shame that ATI graphics cards don’t work properly under Windows 7. Specifically, they won’t display BBCHD and other HD TV channels in New Zealand and Germany without significant corruption.

My config: Athlon X2 4000+ & AMD690G based motherboard (x1250) + 3Gb RAM
AMD last news: AMD’s DirectX 9 ATI Radeon graphics accelerators are not officially supported under Windows 7
So… Display Manager for my X1250 isnt included in win7/vista Catalyst 9.3-9.10 & swapping dsubYPrPb is unavailable under win7
why do you hate your customers?
#5 by phil - October 30th, 2009 at 16:55
Like others I am frustrated with your HD3200 / Win7 driver issues causing go slows, crashes and HD blocking. Lack of response on the support forum adds insult to injury, and even worse is deleting people’s posts!

What is happening to resolve the appalling problems with BBC-HD reception in the UK acrossmost/all AMD/ATI graphics cards. AMD are NOT replying to any support requests. This is appalling service to your customers. Have some backbone and make an announcement !!!

nigel, guess youve seen this article by pcpro:

I have now abandoned AMD/ATI graphics and embeded motherboard products. I have purchased a competitor’s product which has not only immediately resolved my BBC HD issues, but has solved various audio distortions etc I was experiencing using the 3200 embedded GPU.
I understand this MAY be a problem specific to my motherboard, but quite frankly I can’t be bothered to wait and find out. I will purchase a competitor’s products at the next upgrade, and for all my future needs.

Yeah right. I’ve got sick of waiting and moved over to an nVidia solution. This works very well Mr. AMD. The on-board graphics would have been a better proposition, but as the HD3200 will NOT display HD content from the BBC and others from around the globe, this is not an option. So come on Mr Dessau, lets have it sorted, or at the very least, communication.

Issues come… issues go… but when you don’t give your community any feedback whatsoever, that’s when you lose your customer base. Please sort out the HW decoding issue with your cards and W7 for those customers that have hung on. Myself – I had to go out and buy an Nvida 9400 (£32) as my ATI4870 (£180) couldn’t do the job.

Please ATI give us an update on the h264 blocking issue. It was brought to your attention months ago!!
I have just ordered an NVIDIA card to use instead of the onboard graphics on my 780G motherboard. Crazy.
This is one fed-up ATI customer.

When are ATI going to do something about the BBC HD blocking issue? We have been patiently waiting for months for this to be resolved.
See here for more details

Incidentally this has been reported with HD transmissions in New Zealand so is not just a BBC (UK) problem

I too am frustrated with this issue.
I will be switching to Nvidia unless the issue is resolved very soon.
#14 by Joe - November 13th, 2009 at 06:10
Hi,
the same issue occurs in Germany. Several HD broadcasts are showing test programs. Many of them are not shown as should with ATI cards (I have a 4550). nVidia does not seem to have this issue.
This should be resolved soon, as at X-mas time the official broadcasts are going to start HD content on regular basis. I’ve build an HTPC specially for the purpose of viewing HD Live-TV content. If AMD is not able to resolve the issue, I have to sweep out the ATI graphics card and change to nVidia.
As the regular HD broadcast is going to start in about six weeks, I assume many more customers from Germany are going to experience the same issue and have to change to nVidia solutions.
For that reason AMD/ATI has to come up with a resolution in short term or there loosing a lot of money out of the HD broadcast cake sitting in front of you.

add me to the list of dissatisfied customers regarding the h264 issue. I had to go out and buy an *vidia card. Why can’t you reply to customers?
#16 by zombiefly - November 13th, 2009 at 12:29
+1 to the “throw AMD hardware in the bin” camp. I specifically purchased a motherboard with onboard amd HD, i’ve since had to disable the onboard and replace it with an Nvidia card due to the issues listed above. I gave up waiting for an acknowledgement from AMD that there was a problem with their hardware……
Regardless of whether you fix this or not, i’ll never buy another AMD product again as you make me MAD.

Team, I am digging into this question and will come back with an answer.
#18 by Mike King - November 15th, 2009 at 15:30
BBC broadcasting Top Gear in HD is the final straw for me. My favourite programme cannot be watched on my media server because my 3850 card makes it un-watchable. I am going to have to buy an Nvidia which annoys me greatly since this has been known and discussed on the forums for months.

Maybe it’s time everyone just started sending their ATI cards back under warranty, having waited months for a resolution from ATI/AMD, and buying NVidia ones.
#21 by Nigel Dessau - November 16th, 2009 at 10:36
Guys, I am listening – I promise.
We are working it and hope to be more public with the state of things as soon as we can.
I am really sorry about your fustration.
#22 by darren - November 19th, 2009 at 03:28
well i replaced my 3850 thinking it was that but no the new card has the same problem
new drivers out and still no fix
been going on now for months so i think ATI cards have a hardware fault that cannot be fixed with drivers
so i think its time to say goobye to ATI i will not be back i will never buy your products again
thanks for the crap service the wasted money and time i have spent on this
