Hi Pat - good review. Is there is USB port on the body of the Archos 7 - so that I can use a 3G USB modem to connect to internet ? you see wifi is not there everywhere. Please advise.

All I want to say is I am glad this soap opera is reaching the end, (at least for now)...lol.
But AMD needs to move on and continue to be competitive. Begin to do what Intel does, advertise and become a home fixture. Having your CPU's and GPU's available and on the market would be a good start. (The GPU division has a great product but is no where to be had right now).
So if you feel you have been vindicated via this suit, well we consumers feel just as violated as you but without any recourse. Providing them with product and at a good price especially now since this suit has been settled. You ask who is the winner, both AMD and Intel are, we consumers always end up paying for it. So you do something now....AMD we are waiting?

Again, OpenCL on the ATI HD 3200 780 with AMD Athlon 64 x2? I believe that this combo supports Stream. It is appearing in a lot of notebooks such as ACER's AS5534 with 4G of RAM and W7

Hey Brad, I just got almost the same dm3 as you except mine is L610/3200. Hulu HD is fine in a window (not sure if ts 360/480/720p, I'll find out) but not in fullscreen, as you said.

I'll get around to it soon, but what about iTunes in HD?

And I too would love to know if the recently announced Flash 10.1 w/ GPU hardware acceleration would work on the HD3200...

Hello,
Added to question #47. It turns out the unit with the QL-65 has the older Radeon 3200 video chip while the M300 has the 4200.
Thanks

Getting a bit confused as I look for a new low end laptop. Will an AMD QL-65 give better performance than an AMD M300? Both have 4 GB ram whil the unit with the QL-65 has 500GB harddrive and 14" screen for C$550 and the M300 unit has 250GB harddrive with 15.6" screen for C$500. It seems like the QL-65 would be the way to go, but am I missing something? They both are similarly equipped other than shown and scfreen size is not an issue.

I do not want to give anyone the wrong impression or make it sound like Pat is just making stuff up. So to clarify, my Dm3 (L335/3200) handles HD youtube, and even all non-full-screened-Hulu including HD Hulu perfectly. It just seems like full-screen Hulu is too much for it.

Pat, can you reassure me that the HD3200 will benefit from flash acceleration? Or can you suggest to the powers that be that they make sure that it does?

Pat,

You mentioned that the L335/3200 combo ripped through even Hulu HD...I am wondering if you can help me out.

I am typing on a brand-new HP Dm3-1030US (L335/3200) and this computer is awesome! I am pleased by the performance, except full screen Hulu (360p and 480p) isn't smooth. Is something wrong here?

***Also, can you please tell me if the Flash acceleration promised by Adobe and AMD will benefit the HD3200?

Thanks alot, I am otherwise quite happy with my machine!

hadi - the main differences are two:
AMD's CPUs are cheaper.
Intel ones are faster and consume less power.

To anyone that will try to answer to this (if anyone approves those comments at all): we do not use MM07, yet we think it's better than none. We also think you invest too much resources in writing about something so unimportantas testing methods. You will fail to make a reasonable point to influential tech teams.

There can't be such thing as standard for battery performance in terms of benchmark. Who will decide what test to include, how would be wireless used (compare 3 gigs torrent you download pinging a server through the wireless, and you will see like 10 watts difference due to wi-fi card, memory, processor and disk usage (pings doesn't need those).

Everything you need is standard power modes, clearly stated average power consumption (average between low power idle states and max performance loaded wattage, and battery capacity in W/hr. The rest is just too much complains, and it's uncalled for.

I'd agree that price/performance is important, really important on the desktop market, but on the notebook battlefield AMD still looses as prices dropped too low for the difference to make it worth it.

Isn't a bit odd that most AMD fan boys and employees deny the facts - AMD doesn't have good enough processor to compete at that market, neither in terms of power savings (go beat P7450 if you can, and any 1.15V Penryn too), nor performance wise.

We are still wondering how did AMD managed to release the 45 nm Caspian with 35W TDP?

We do not think that the "battery life"war is good for business. People don't care so much about it, and that comes from a reseller's view, which you never bothered to ask for.

AMD should concentrate on videocards, so many good ones an all they suffer from bad driver support and even BIOS bugs (HD4570 DDR3).

And why is that battle anyway? The trend shows people are buying more and more systems with discrete graphics, and Intel is still lagging and doesn't have even decent integrated solution. But the flame war goers on and on...

I’d agree that price/performance is important, really important on the desktop market, but on the notebook battlefield AMD still looses as prices dropped too low for the difference to make it worth it.

Well, the launch date has come and gone, and I'm not seeing any models that offer what I want: 15.4" WUXGA/LED display + backlit keyboard. It looks like I will be ordering a Dell M4400 soon, much as I hate to buy a non-AMD system. This may be my first non-AMD purchase in 6 years. I'm tired of settling for machines that don't offer exactly the set of features that I wanted. I think this is a pathetic state of affairs - screens are pretty much interchangeable. It shouldn't be so impossible to get a notebook with the CPU *and* display I want, and yet it has been just that - impossible - for the past several years.

So how about compatibility with S1G1?
Since they do not have split power planes.

That has to be joke, right? Ultra low-end notebook with more consumption than any Intel-based budget laptop sporting games and video encoding? Who deas that on low end processor anyway?

HD4200 is not enough for games. Period.
HD4200 still cannot accelerade L5/L5.1 or high reference-frame H264 videos.
AMD Turion II X2 M640 (which seems to be epic fail) still works worse than 2.4 GHz P8600 (it comes to better architecture Core 2 has), and consumption wise it's 35W against 25W. That is on AC, problem is that it gets uglier on battery...

Anyone know if any models are releasing?

I have seen one on HP, but not quite the one I want ( screen was a lousy 1366x768 and was only part non-upgradeable)

Any with resolution better than 1366x768 and higher end?

Worried this is a D.O.A. platform and was waiting a while for its release.

Hmm, I'm kinda disappointed, I don't see the MSI X430 out yet and it's Win7 day! Maybe they (MSI) just couldn't get it into production on time...
