There is infobase on this on amd.com: 737-27117.
Some users have noted that after a complete removal of all ATI software in the system, followed by a reinstall using the latest Vista specific versions of the ATI software, helps with this issue.
Might be worth a try. I always completely remove before i install to avoid any “hiccups”

I solved the problem by installing display driver only.Vista always showed 8.612.0.0 now finally it says 8.661.0.0.I think i played games with old drivers until now despite i update everything everytime…

I have a 4870×2, and am disappointed that there’s no longer a “Maintain Aspect Ratio” option. Lara Croft looks FAT! lol

Radeon 4890 + the downloaded, installed catalyst 9.10 – after rebooting, still the display is on the 23″ LCD panel is not end to end. There is a 1″ black border all around at native resolution, 1920×1080
Please advise how I can get the complete display from end to end and top to bottom? Reducing the resolution is not something I want to do. Is there a solution? I have downloaded the recent Catalyst version 9.10 and am running Windows 7 – 64 bit version. Thanks.
So, the solution is in Catalyst…at least the one I used. I had that annoying thin black border and was tinkering with the catalyst settings. Unfortunately, I’m at work now and not on my computer. Just hunt around for a slider bar that makes the black border shrink and grow.

Go to Display Manager, right click on the Monitor in the bottom left and chose Configure. Go to underscan settings and slide it to 0%.

Where did you find that option? 9.10 CCC doesn’t have scaling option at all! That’s an impossible bug.

Have a 4890 card!
What the heck is wrong with the 9.10 drivers for the Windows 7 64bit. I have a one inch black border around my LG W2361VG LCD Monitor now at 1920×1080 plus the colors look washed out!!!!!!!!
The LCD Monitor worked perfectly on Vista 64bit running the 9.9 drivers at 1920×1080.

I have ATI Radeon 4650 (1GB) and Samsung T220P (22″) monitor.
Ubuntu 9.06 is currently installed. Everything is Ok but sometimes (for example when a new window is pop up) screen is flickered. Also, some extra visual effects are not worked.
I have to install catalyst?, Is it support Radeon 4650 on linux?

I have a problem with the 5870 and WMV. If you go through several videos and try to scroll ahead, pause, etc, the video driver freezes up and locks up the entire computer with a black screen. Occasionally parts of the screen will refresh so you can see the Start button. I can play Supreme Commander at 1920×1600 without issue. Just the video problem.

I just got myself the HD 5770 yesterday only to find that the drivers dont even support it.. not only that but two of my favoutite games Anno 1404 and the Witcher have big issues, anno has black textures all of the place and looks a mess while the Witcher again has weird texture break up and other issues.
I’m running windows 7 64 bit and my previous graphics card was the nvidia 8800gts which ran both games in Windows 7 64bit perfectly.. Is this what i can expect from ati / amd and their range of cards / drivers .. no support for their own graphics card range and bugs that make games look a mees and not worth playing ?
#22 by Eric s - October 29th, 2009 at 15:39
Have had 2 HD4870’s for some time now and never had this issue. When I installed CCC9.10 I lost the crossfire tab. Both cards are recognized in the system info, but also the second card is not available to adjust in overdrive tab either.

I got a brand new HD 5770 yesterday I am having constant crashes when I run games in fullscreen mode under windows 7 32-bit.
Borderlands, Batman Arkham Asylum do work in windowed mode even in the 1920×1200 resilution but cause a blue screen when switching to fullscreen. Fallout 3 doesn’t run even in windowed mode. Resident Evil 5 also causes a blue screen.
When will you add support for 5700 series?

Guess I should have read the driver release notes before selling my hd4850 and purchasing a hd5850. ‘The Witcher’ texture flashing all over the place, something that’s not present with the previous generation of cards. Why did it have to be this game as its the only game I’m actively playing. Worse thing is that the beta 9.11 drivers still don’t fix the issue, although I hope it will be addressed in the next release. Here’s to you Catalyst Makers!
#29 by Rez - November 2nd, 2009 at 10:37
I also wanted to add that playing The Witcher via STEAM service, and using the SHIFT+TAB feature to speak with your friends, causes the game to loose the mouse cursor, rendering it unusable and must be forced exited. Thanks.
#30 by Rez - November 2nd, 2009 at 16:47
Just to clerify, these issues were not present (texture flicker + STEAM issue) when I was running the hd4850, windows 7 x64 and catalyst 9.9 drivers.

#36 by Manti - November 5th, 2009 at 02:44
wasn’t familiar with 9.10 and overlooked the underscan… You must click the top left tab labeled Graphics v then Desktops & Dispalys then down below with the tiny screen of your screen you must left click on the top right tab then select configure from there goto the Scaling Options tab and find the underscan/overscan you need! apply ok w/e byebye

i’m using a hd4870×2 and lately when i downloaded the newest version of ccc9.10 it started giving me ALOT of problems with the drivers, ati2mtag started giving error resulting in screen going black and go into sleep mode and after 10-20 seconds it starts back up and flipping out with tons of different colors and forces me to reboot my computer. also when i start up games like Call of Duty Moder Warfare and World of Warcraft this happens. also some grafic driver stops working after some time. why is this a problem for me? ive tried to remove my grafic drivers completely and reinstalling them but still it happens to me.
#39 by Weij - November 6th, 2009 at 16:14
I’ve just installed Windows 7 32-bit and Catalyst 9.10 running on a Sapphire 4890 2Gb.
In all games that used to run ok, I’m getting low res textures on walls/objects when close up now! When viewed from afar, everything looks crispy clean! The textures on the characters are very high res and not affected… only walls and objets.
Mip mapping set to highest quality. All other settings in CCC is highest quality too.
Games that I’ve tried include: Arkham Asylum, Left 4 Dead 1/2, COD4, Witcher EE, Bioshock etc. All same texture issue. All these games used to run fine on WinXP with the same hardware.
Anybody else have this problem or is it just me?
Any tips?
Thanks!

Windows 7 64-bit
XFX ATI 4870 1GB
CCC 9.10
There is no ‘configure’ to select.
There are no scaling options.
This card worked in XP Pro why not in Windows 7?

Windows 7 64 Bit
After installing Visual Studio 2008 with SP1 I CAN’T INSTALL DRIVERS/CCC any more!!! Installation Program is dying! There is SP with mfc80.dll on MS website, but it’s not working!
Anyway what is Underscaling/Overscaling for with HDMI!!! IT’S STUPID OPTION. Everybody are searching how to set this on 0% but, as standard, drivers are set on 15%! Without CCC it’s not possible to change this! And than you have to go each Resolution and each Frequency to change this. After driver update you have to do everythig again!!!!!!!!

I’m running an AGP HD3650. As I can’t afford to upgrade my hardware (recession and all that) I thought I would try upgrading my OS instead. Now that I have 32 bit Win 7, the driver won’t install and neither will CCC!
I now have a ham-strung PC which won’t recognize my card and just thinks I have standard 16mb VGA card.
Please can any help or let me know if ATi will ever release a WIN7 AGP hotfix?
#47 by Ken - November 11th, 2009 at 14:54
Asus 5870 on Windows 7 Ultimate. Packaged display driver frequently produces screen corruption (Win 7 message: “Display Driver has failed and successfully recovered”) – noteably when scrolling in IE8. Downloaded 9.10 drivers, cannot install them. After running through install and automatic reboot; system message is that the GPU has no driver installed.
#48 by Vitor - November 11th, 2009 at 21:42
Hi, Saphire 2900XT on Win7 Ultimate 64bit. After upgraded to 9.10, driver stops responding, producing the error message from win7 «Display Driver has failed and sucessfully recovered».
Happens, randomly, it may be after watching a video, or simply trying to open an explorer window on my local network.
Seems like the same error given by first nvidia drivers available for win vista…
Hope this will be fixed on next release… The only shame is that 9.9 was more stable, not producing this error…

I just purchased a second ati sapphire 4870 card to install in a dell xps qx6850 problem is in the device manager notice under display adapters 2 4870 cards displayed with no errors but when I go over to catalys and check hardware information it states there is a primary card but the second is disabled being that both cards are set up with crossfire should I worry that the second card is being displayed in catalyst under system information/ graphics hardware as disabled adapter?

hello
I have an HD4870 in my 2 month old Dell…when I ran the Windows 7 upgrade I just get a black screen after the splash screen. I have tried to add the 9.11 drivers by booting off the CD and choosing “load driver” but it tells me they’re not valid? Safe mode tells me to complete the install before I can use it and low res mode just gives the black screen again. A format and reinstall gave the same result…any ideas, please?
(i’m using a Sony LCD TV as the monitor via HDMI)
#55 by dan - November 19th, 2009 at 16:17
Fixed it by buying a VGA cable and using that so I could actually see Windows 7…finished the install and used the 9.11 drivers and – so far – it’s all working (with the HDMI again).
Yay.
