ATI Catalyst™ 10.1 Driver – What’s New?

It’s that time again for the ATI Catalyst™ driver update!  We have been getting great comments and feedback from the community because of this blog site.  Please continue to send us your feedback as we do review them all*.

*IF you are having technical issues with the ATI Catalyst driver, or your graphics card please report your issues here.

Things are going to start to get very exciting as far as ATI Catalyst drivers are concerned in 2010.

AMD continues to be one of the few companies in the high tech industry to commit to 12 driver updates a year (and all updates are Microsoft WHQL certified).  Check our record – for quite some time now each and every month has seen a new ATI Catalyst driver released.  Typically these either have new bug fixes, performance improvements, or new features (or a combination of all three).

Over the next few months AMD is planning to roll out some major new features and functionality into the ATI Catalyst drivers.  I can’t give you all the specifics now, but will keep you posted on any new features and functions as they become available.

Until then, here are the highlights of what is new in ATI Catalyst 10.1 this month:

Highlights of the Linux ATI Catalyst 10.1 release include:

I’ve recently switched from Nvidia to ATI cards, since they seem to have much more powerful hardware. That may be the case, however lack of utilising this power and the lack of driver support is a bit daunting. Seeing how this driver is literally 9.12 with a few tweaks, bad start to the new year in my opinion. I’m assuming this isn’t the 3D drivers rumoured to have been appearing either?

AMD/ATI, you have great hardware, nobody can deny that. But when you spent your time making Crysis “3% faster” and count that as an achievement…well…

Here’s hoping NEXT MONTHS drivers will be decent, considering this driver was meant to fix a lot of issues. I’m hoping the DiRT 2 windscreen water bug was fixed at least >.>

I just bought a brand new Radeon 5850 and have the gray stripe issue. When will you guys aniticpate fixing this issue, or should I return my card for a GTX 285? It’s ridiculous to buy brand new hardware, only to have it be useless. I had to plug my old 9800GT back in just to play games for now.

Grey screen/random vertical bar crash issue not fixed!!!
    Stupid ATI!!

Suggested would improve the functioning of the drivers in such games as World of Warcraft because I can not cope even though the game is not new. I have ATI Radeon HD 4800 series.

Seems the powerplay is borked. instead of the normal idle clocks my 5870 sits at 400/1200Mhz.

Going back to the 9.12 Beta. The 10.1, oops, the 9.12+ was a big waste of my time.

Doesn’t work with my 5870 and win 7 64bits … install drivers ok but all games crash… (borderlands for exemple)

Back to 9.12, everything is ok…

Nice but… about the grey strip issue ? We are a lot of customers who are waiting for an update to solve the problem!

Its time to do fix to that gray stripes problem finally, im getting it from like my first day with hd 5770 and its pissing me off. And actually i was experiencing it on my hd 4850 for MONTHS, so this is not a fresh issue at all.

just updated my 4870×2 with the 10.1 driver (win7 x64 ult.) and now I am only able to work in Windows safe mode. If I start normally I receive an error msg that during the setting of VGA clock the system crashed. Was a clean driver install. Now the bad thing… can’t remove the driver in safe mode… fuck… smelling a re-install of my system… thanks for the mess :-(

Total waste of time. Games still crash to the desktop, Defense Grid still runs at 10fps. Really glad I bought this HD5770 card, NOT!
