Awards Season

by Jason Deal

When it comes to the Oscars, I tend to find the fashion to be most interesting, along with the music, costume and set design awards.  I love movies, but my taste is all over the map and I don’t think I’ll ever get to the point where I’ve seen a critical mass of the nominees.

Honestly, when I think of awards in general, I immediately jump to the computing industry and specifically processors.  It’s pretty gratifying to see the products and platforms that we work with day in and day out recognized by the journalists and publications that cover our business.  I’d have to say my colleagues on the China Product PR team feel the same way.  I received an email from them a few weeks ago outlining a phenomenal number of awards that our server processors have garnered recently in China.

Will Avatar be able to hold a candle to the Six-Core AMD Opteron™ processor?  Here’s a list of 2009 winners:

  • Editor’s Choice for Best Application Award from China Information World:  Six-Core AMD Opteron processor
  • Editor’s Recommendation Award from E Manufacturing: Six-Core AMD Opteron processor
  • Product Innovation Award from IT 168:  Six-Core AMD Opteron processor
  • Best Innovative Enterprise-Level Processor Award from CCIDnet:  Six-Core AMD Opteron processor
  • Virtualization Product Award from ZDNet China:  Six-Core AMD Opteron processor
  • Best HPC Server Product Award from ZDNet China:  Six-Core AMD Opteron processor

I’ve noticed that Oscar talk for next year’s awards starts early, so let me wrap with this one:  2009 Product Award for Creative Design from China Computerworld:  the AMD Opteron 6000 Series platform.  That one is coming soon to a data center near you.
