A Big Boost
This isn’t a parlor trick that requires only one or two active cores in order to boost; this is a serious technology that works across as many as 16 cores – simultaneously. Continue reading
More for your Money
So when comparing servers based on the Intel Xeon processor model E5640 and the AMD Opteron™ processor Model 6220, you can clearly see that for about the same price, you are getting processors with 25 percent more performance, twice the memory, three times the storage and high availability. How do you beat that? Continue reading
AMD Opteron™ 6200 Series Processors Answer the Need for Yet More Cores
In High-Performance Computing (HPC), we have many applications that are routinely operating at the scale of 100s to 1,000s of threads, and increasingly some are moving into the 10,000s of threads. The next decade will be marked by more applications and thus more science operating at levels of scale that were not common in the last decade. Threads need cores on which to run, and processors with more cores mean more threads can run in a single socket versus spread between multiple sockets, bringing down cost and increasing density of compute resources. Continue reading
The Reality
For the benchmark that represents the widest range of applications, compared to the most popular Intel processor, we have a dollar-for-dollar 89% lead in performance. Continue reading
Swiss Miss
There is a growing class of products that are emerging based on the needs of cloud and web hosting customers. Many of the customers that I work with, especially in Germany which seems to be a hotbed of hosting activity these day, are asking for a 1P solution that marries up a true server processor with an infrastructure with client-like economics. Continue reading
